Sudbury Mining Products Ltd. was
incorporated in 1987 by Robert Kaven and Paavo Liukko to
provide products and services to the mining industry. The
first product supplied to mines and mining equipment
manufacturers was Hydra Wrap, a spiral protective wrap for
hydraulic hoses manufactured by SMP on a cutter designed and
fabricated in-house.
The Bijur line of continuous automatic lubrication systems
was added to our product offering in 1991. SMP quickly
became an industry leader in the supply of lubrication
solutions in all facets of industry.
In 1994, recognizing the need for an alternative to oil
lubrication for pneumatic drills in underground workplaces,
we developed the Hal grease lubrication system. The Hal
system greatly reduces oil mist in the atmosphere
surrounding the worker, resulting in a healthier and safer
working environment.
After extensive testing at INCO’s South Mine, Hal
lubrication became the standard at all of INCO’s Ontario
Division mines. It has since been adopted at Falconbridge
Sudbury Operations as well as INCO’s Manitoba Division and
is being introduced into many other mines in Canada and the
United States.
Today, products sold by Sudbury Mining Products Ltd. can be
found in most Canadian mines as well as in many mines in the
USA.
